The new Windows Phone 8 operating system has only been with us for a couple of months now and early adopters to the platform have largely given it the thumbs up. At the moment there are only a handful of handsets available especially when compared to rival Android, but there have been some issues with the software and we now have reports that the Windows Phone 8 OS is still rebooting and freezing after the recent update.
Issues first came to light back in November with users of the operating system on a number of different handsets were reporting they were seeing random reboots or the handset suddenly freezing. A couple of days ago there was the Portico Windows Phone 8 update pushed out to customers on both AT&T and T-Mobile in the US, but some users are still reporting experiencing issues.
According to WM Poweruser before the update some users were reporting sudden resets, and handsets occasionally hanging during the reset process, which then requires the holding down of the volume and power buttons simultaneously for ten seconds to save the device.
The recent update was supposed to fix all these problems that was pushed out by AT&T to the Nokia Lumia 920 and Lumia 820 along with the HTC 8X on T-Mobile. Trouble is there are owners reporting that the problem still exists despite the recent update, with a number of different WP8 owners reporting their handsets are still suffering from the sudden reboot problem.
One owner of the Nokia Lumia 920 with AT&T is complaining that since the update his phone charges overnight, but is completely dead by the morning, and it seems the operator has had a number of customers calling with the same problem with the company now escalating the issue.
On a WM Poweruser thread about the problems since the latest update there has been reports of trouble with the handsets backlight, but the main problems being reported is the constant rebooting of handsets.
It will be interesting to hear if other Windows Phone 8 users are experiencing problems away from AT&T, as T-Mobile briefly stalled the Portico update for the HTC 8X before pushing it out to end users. The carrier may have noticed a small issue with the software and quickly rectified it before releasing the new firmware.
