Not too long ago we let our readership know that old Sammy was extending their Galaxy range of devices with the addition of the new Samsung Galaxy Grand, a device that will become available in both single SIM and dual SIM models when it eventually releases, but the Galaxy Grand will also be getting a bit of a challenge by a new device from ZTE in the form of the ZTE U887.
The new ZTE U887 is a challenger to the Samsung Galaxy Grand because the ZTE U887 actually sports the same display as the rival Samsung handset, so both devices will come with a 5-inch touch screen with an 800 x 480 pixel resolution.
Furthermore the ZTE U887 according to a report by Tech Radar also sports a 1.2GHz dual core processor the same as the Samsung Galaxy Grand, but when it comes to the main camera the Galaxy Grand fairs better sporting an 8 megapixel snapper whilst the ZTE U887 only has a 5 megapixel main camera.
When it comes to the front camera though the ZTE U887 comes out on top as the Samsung Galaxy Grand sports a 2 megapixel front snapper whilst the ZTE U887 sports a 3 megapixel camera.
The Samsung Galaxy Grand is of course an Android Jelly Bean smartphone and although the ZTE U887 is an Android handset there is currently no word on what version of the operating system the handset sports.
We do know of course that the Samsung Galaxy Grand will come with such things as Direct Call, a feature that enables the user to dial a call simply by raising the device to their ear, and the ability to shake the handset to trigger status updates or pan and zoom into a screen. The handset also has a Smart Alert feature that will show missed events like missed new messages and calls when you pick up the device, whilst the Popup Video feature allows the user to view videos in a pop-up windows anywhere on the display whilst running other tasks.
However it is still unclear just when and where the Samsung Galaxy Grand will release and how much it will cost, and we know that the ZTE U887 will release in China at some point, but whether the handset will ever make it outside the country remains to be seen.
So perhaps the ZTE U887 wont be too much of a challenger to the Samsung Galaxy Grand after all. However these two are most definitely worth putting side by side and when we know more we will give a more in-depth comparison.
