Sony’s Xperia U was only recently treated to the Android Ice Cream Sandwich operating system and you would have thought it would have been a while before it gets updated again, but sources are telling the Android Authority that the handset could be about to receive the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update.
The first claims originated from an unknown source but is saying the Sony Xperia U will get the update next month along with the Xperia P, Xperia Sola, and Xperia Go. Obviously you would normally take such claims with a pinch of salt, but they have seemingly been backed up from more solid source in the form of Sony’s Italian Facebook page.
While there is no exact timeframe given for the update to arrive it does say that the company is planning to release Android 4.1 for the Sony Xperia U. Sony did leave out the handset from its official Jelly Bean upgrade list that it made available back in October, and at the time it was thought that no handsets would receive Jelly Bean until the New Year.
The company may have changed its mind but you would have thought that the likes of the flagship Sony Xperia T and US carrier AT&T’s Xperia TL would be the first Sony handsets to see the update. Sony seems to be one of the worst smartphone companies to update hardware to new Android firmware, and owners of the company’s handsets will be looking enviously at other devices already running on the later operating system.
